MOT

All cars three years old and older are required to have a valid MOT certificate to be driven on UK roads. You can have your car tested a full 28 days before your current certificate runs out, and booking early at GFCC can allow time for any issues to be resolved.

We arrange MOTs for the following vehicles:

Class 4

  • Cars (up to 8 passengers)
  • Motor caravans
  • 3-wheeled vehicles over 450kg unladen weight
  • Quads (max 400kg unladen, but for goods vehicles 500kg and max 15kw)
  • Dual purpose vehicles
  • Private hire and public service vehicles (up to 8 seats)
  • Ambulances and taxis
  • Private passenger vehicles and ambulances (9-12 passenger seats)

Class 7

  • Goods vehicles (over 3,000 kg up to 3,500 kg DGW)

What Happens If I Fail the MOT?

If your MOT results show “dangerous” or “major” problems with your vehicle, you will fail the test. You also will not be legally allowed to drive the vehicle until you those problems are fixed. There may also be a list of “minor” or “advisory” problems that need to be monitored or fixed in the future. These minor problems do not cause a failure of the MOT on their own.

If your vehicle fails the MOT, you’ll get a “refusal of an MOT test certificate” and your failure will be recorded in the MOT database. You have two choices: you can appeal the result if you feel that it is wrong or you can make the repairs and get your vehicle retested.

If you are caught driving a vehicle that has failed the MOT, you could be fined, banned from driving, and may receive penalty points on your license. If you’ve failed your MOT and are in need of vehicle repairs, be sure to contact GFCC right away.
